Wells of Hope Enterprises is a social-impact business dedicated to providing affordable, sustainable, and locally-constructed hand-dug wells to underserved and remote communities in the Nuba Mountains, Sudan. We hope to bring clean water, economic empowerment, and long-term community resilience through a combination of skilled local labor and community ownership systems that ensure sustainability.
The business provides a solution to chronic water shortages while creating economic opportunities for local community members. We aim to become the leading water-access enterprise in the region with a model that is both financially sustainable and socially transformative.
Our Vision
To become the most trusted provider of safe, affordable, and lasting water solutions in the Nuba Mountains—transforming communities and lifting families out of water scarcity.
Our Mission
To construct high-quality hand-dug wells through local talent, community partnership, and sustainable business practices that generate both impact and income.
Our Core Values
- Integrity: We operate transparently and responsibly.
- Excellence – We deliver high-quality water infrastructure.
- Sustainability – We prioritize long-term solutions.
- Community Ownership – Communities participate in every stage.
- Hope – We believe access to water unlocks human potential.
The Problem
Nearly 70% of rural Nuba communities lack access to safe water, relying on:
- Contaminated rivers and open water points
- Seasonal water points creating scarcity during dry season
- Long travel distances (2–3 hours daily) for water collection
- High prevalence of water-borne diseases
- Low agricultural productivity due to water shortages
- Youth unemployment and lack of marketable skills
These problems have created a community that is highly dependent, has low self-esteem, and is unable to lead positive change. The demand for affordable, nearby, and safe water infrastructure is exceptionally high.
Our Solution

Affordable – Lower cost than mechanized boreholes.
Locally Maintainable – No dependence on expensive equipment.
